What Comes Next in the Wedding Planning Process?

Which did you book first? Your dream venue or that photographer that caught your eye on Instagram? Maybe you even found the dress before you picked your wedding date! I think we can all agree that it is easy to check off the most exciting parts of your wedding checklist first! What comes after those first exciting months of planning though? Sometimes you’ve got to push through the nitty gritty details to get to the fun part: dressing up and celebrating with loved ones!

In an effort to help, here are 3 things you might want to think about after booking your major vendors.

  1. Florals and decor details. This may be one of the most exciting aspects for some brides and maybe you’ve had those details envisioned for months (or years). If you don’t have that clear vision in your head, building a mood board on Pinterest is a great place to start! Once you get your vision board filled with the vibes you’re most drawn to, look for common themes and narrow it down to one. I am going to leave you with some advice that my husband told me when we were planning our wedding: pick one and stick to it; stop looking once you’ve made a decision. Too much of a good thing (inspiration pieces) is not a good thing! Let yourself fall in love with one theme or mood and run with it.

  2. Day of Logistics. It is never too early to start thinking about the logistics of your day. Where will you get ready? How will you travel from there to the ceremony? Will you have a first look? Do you want a receiving line? How will you exit your reception? These details can certainly be nailed down later but the sooner you make a decision, the sooner you can make concrete plans around those details. Give yourself time to look into the pros and cons of some of your wedding day decisions such as a first look or a receiving line. When in doubt, ask your vendors for advice on what has worked smoothly for them in the past. A good wedding vendor can make any timeline work, but they will fondly remember the ones that worked best!

  3. Stress management. This one might not be on everybody’s radar, but its no secret that planning a wedding can be a stressful time! Be sure to protect your mental health while planning your wedding day. Overall, this day is about celebrating the love you share with your fiancé at a big party with your family and friends. Sometimes you get several opinions from people who think they are being helpful. Sometimes family dynamics can be a source of stress in the planning process. Weddings can also be a financial burden while budgeting for the expenses of your dream wedding. Some easy ways to reduce your stress are: exercise, eating well, and talking about the source of your stress with someone you trust. If you have concerns about how to navigate a specific situation, bring those up to the vendors that will be working closely with you throughout the day (your photographer & wedding coordinator) so that they can help you through those times as much as possible!

Creating a checklist with several small, actionable tasks to complete can help you feel like you are making the right steps in your planning process. If this is something you’d like help establishing, just let me know!
